Last Week
This is our last week of required didactics! During this semester we were all able to learn so many new things about the field of psychiatry from Dr. Tobia as well as the wonderful TA’s who helped us. It was an incredible opportunity to be able to learn how to relate psych to media, and it helped us in our understanding of complicated concepts.
DThis week, we discussed many interesting topics during our Q & A session such as dementia, multi-tasking, memory, stalking, etc.. We learned that age and hearing loss are the top predictors of dementia and although it is not curable, through medication it can be prolonged on an average of 3-5 years. Multitasking is what we humans think we are becoming increasingly good at, however, it is not our ability to multi-task that is enhancing, rather our ability to switch from one task to another quickly. Humans cannot multitask; it is simply something that our brain does not allow for. Another topic we covered throughout this month was a discussion on personality disorders! For more insight into this topic check out our newsletter and even our live streams on our instagram page!
Although there are many topics to cover, what was most unique about this week was our TA session. It was a combined session with all TA’s and interns where we discussed communication in various ways and got to play games to simulate its importance.
As a last note: I also just want to say thank you to all our TA’s, and good luck to future interns!
