Weekly Recap

A Recap on Thursday’s (August 8th) Didactics

“Weathering With You”

This week, the anime didactic focused on the film: Weathering With You. The film included key themes such as Poverty and Rebellion while highlighting Climate Change. It is implied that the main character, Hodaka experiences economic hardship through his homestyle and family relationships. His impulsive behavior is initially disguised when he uses an armed gun in self-defense, but later uses it in an attempt to defy authority and avoid the consequences.

Diagnosis:

  • Hodaka’s multiple run-ins with the police and blatant disregard for authority support a diagnosis of Conduct Disorder.

  • Meanwhile, Keisuke’s behavior suggests a case of alcohol use disorder. His overindulgence in alcohol is portrayed by the consistent scenes in which he is found passed out.

Medical Student Didactic

The Medical Student Didactic addressed the mental struggles social media has inflicted on younger generations. The Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) was greatly discussed in the didactic, especially its physiological impacts such as stress, anxiety, insomnia, etc.

An episode from the series “Atlanta,“ “Champagne Papi” depicts how difficult it can be to deal with FOMO. It also details the lengths which people may go to, in order to alleviate their distress.
